http://orientaldaily.on.cc/cnt/news/20110316/00174_001.html

Last Defense at Troubled Reactors: 50 Japanese Workers

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/16/world/asia/16workers.html

A small crew of technicians, braving radiation and fire, became the only people remaining at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station on Tuesday — and perhaps Japan’s last chance of preventing a broader nuclear catastrophe.

The few details Tokyo Electric has made available paint a dire picture. Five workers have died since the earthquake and 22 more have been injured for various reasons, while two are missing. One worker was hospitalized after suddenly grasping his chest and finding himself unable to stand, and another needed treatment after receiving a blast of radiation near a damaged reactor. Eleven workers were injured in a hydrogen explosion at reactor No. 3. Nuclear reactor operators say that their profession is typified by the same kind of esprit de corps found among firefighters and elite military units. Lunchroom conversations at reactors frequently turn to what operators would do in a severe emergency.

The consensus is always that they would warn their families to flee before staying at their posts to the end, said Michael Friedlander, a former senior operator at three American power plants for a total of 13 years.

You’re certainly worried about the health and safety of your family, but you have an obligation to stay at the facility,” he said. “There is a sense of loyalty and camaraderie when you’ve trained with guys, you’ve done shifts with them for years.”

Torn up and terrified by a disaster that keeps getting worse, Japan has transformed in just four days from one of the world’s most comfortable countries into one of its most distressed. (Death toll rises, stocks plunge, foreigners flee as nuclear crisis escalates)

From International Christian Baptist Church, Japan

REQUESTS FOR THE UNITED PRAYER FROM JAPAN

We, Japanese people are facing historical national disaster and all the citizens and
governments are struggling against this difficulty. We want to request the believers
to attend the same-time prayer (21:00 Japan Time, ex. 4:00 in California, 12:00 in London)
from today, March 15. Please look at the following prayer items and try to intercede
for us if possible. ;

1. The nuclear plant in Fukushima should be soothed before the catastrophic
explosion. (Especially for the 50 staff of the plant and self-defense soldiers
who help the area) They should be protected from the influence of radiation.
2. The churches should get united and be the light of the world working together.
3. The government’s appropriate decisions and actions should be made.
4. The media should react to the situation precisely and constructively.
5. The supplies and resources for the refugees should reach the 450,000 people
in the over 2,000 evacuation places in the disaster area.

Thank you for your cooperation and we believe that our prayer can transform our mind sets,
inspire us and change the situation.

Someone is praying for you (其中一個中文版本)

Lanny Wolfe

Chorus:

Chorus:
